STUDENT OF THE MONTH: Dalton Hopper

Dalton Hopper

October 2017

Dalton Hopper is pursuing his degree in Mathematics and Statistics with a minor in Actuarial Science. Dalton was raised in Paintsville, Kentucky where he attended Johnson Central High School.  During his high school years, Dalton was very involved in extracurricular activities including Academic Team, BETA Club, Key Club, Student Council, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Dalton knew when he came to EKU that he wanted to pursue a degree in Statistics. "Ever since I had AP Statistics in high school, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in this field.  The small class sizes and how beautiful the campus was also attracted me", Dalton said.  Since he has been at EKU, he says he has learned that he is even more passionate about statistics than he thought he was and that his professors in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics are "out of this world".

Dalton has received many awards during his time at EKU.  He has been on the Dean's List every semester, has received the EKU Excellence Award, which is a scholarship that is awarded on a competitive basis for academic excellence, has received the President's Award and the Dean's Award and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi.

After graduation in 2019, he would like to pursue his Ph.D. in Statistics in hopes of becoming a university professor.
