New Solar Farm Goes Online

EKU Solar Farm

With the help of EKU alumnus, Gary Booth, a new solar farm went online in December.  This solar farm will help provide clean, renewable energy and help the university offset approximately 330 metric tons of carbon dioxide each year.  The new solar arrays have the potential to generate 450,000 kilowatt-hours a year, which is the equivalent of enough energy to power roughly 40 homes for a year.

Koenig Eastern's First-Ever Rhodes Scholar Finalist

Eastern Kentucky University senior Nick Koenig recently competed as a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship, the oldest and most celebrated award for postgraduate international study. Recipients of the Rhodes Scholarship study at the University of Oxford in England with all expenses covered for several years. Only 32 American students were chosen as winners, and while not ultimately selected as a 2021 Rhodes Scholar, Koenig’s participation in the final stages of the competition on Nov.

Today is Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement designed to kick off the holiday season by giving you an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.

Please take time to support the College of Science by giving to the Endowment for Student Success.  This fund was established to develop a reliable source, in perpetuity, of enhanced support for activities that foster student persistence, academic success, and life-long learning.

 

Students receive second place award at 2020 Kentucky Academy of Science Meeting

Three third year students in the Department of Biological Sciences, Ms. Haley Bruss, Maray Baker and Haven Jacob, received the Second Place Award for Oral Student Presentations in the Computer and Information Science Section of the 2020 Meeting of the Kentucky Academy of Science. The title of their presentation was “Failure of fungal telomeres to maintain sequence integrity at chromosome ends in Magnaporthe”.
