STUDENT OF THE MONTH: Alex Dixon
Alex Dixon, a junior computer science major, grew up on a cattle farm in Milton, Kentucky (Trimble County). He attended Trimble County High School where he participated in concert band and was a member of the academic team.
“I chose to attend EKU because of the computer science program, the small class sizes, and the great campus enviornment,” said Alex.
Alex is a member of EKU’s Honors Program and has been recognized for his academics by being named to the Dean’s List (minumum 3.5 GPA) every semester since he has been at EKU as well as receiving the President’s Award (GPA of 4.0). He also received the EKU Excellence Scholarship which is the highest merit scholarship EKU offers and the Gabbard-Hylton Scholarship which is awarded to students who maintain an above average academic record, demonstrate leadership qualities, and demonstrate a desire to earn an education by working part time.
Alex works at the Student Success Center as an EKU Guru and is involved in the Machine Learning Deep Learning (MLDL) research lab in the Department of Computer Science. He also colaborates with both undergraduate and graduate students on research projects under the mentorship of Dr. Dae Wook Kim.
When asked what he has learned while at EKU, Alex remarked, “I have learned how to effectively work with others to achieve a common goal. Through group projects in classes, research projects outside of classes, and tutoring sessions with students, I have learned how to communicate my ideas and contribute to the group to achieve the desired results for a given task.”
Alex would like to become a software developer after he graduates.
